The author’s point is, of course, that the earth is the most thermodynamically stable state of matter, but what is the matter? In the video, the author uses the word “matter” to mean any of the three states of matter (i.e., air, water, and solid).
It’s nice to see that the author is talking about the “cold” side of things. Of course this is a silly thing to do, but this is a really great example of how you can use the term “cool” and have the other temperature-vibrating forces that we all know about in the universe, especially in the case of things like the Sun. We can also think of the cold as a negative thermal pressure in the universe.
We could also just as easily talk about the hot side of things. Which does have a little more meaning to it. Since the author is talking about the hot side of things, it seems like a good idea to talk about the solid side of things. This is because solid objects and the materials that make them up have a very high thermal conductivity.
We all know that the Sun is a source of heat energy. We also all know it’s got a thermal conductivity that’s at least 100 times higher than the thermal conductivity of water. But with solid materials, it’s not quite so obvious. The solid materials are very good thermal conductors as long as they’re made up of some solid material as opposed to some liquid.
The thermal conductivity of a solid material can vary wildly and depends a lot on the specific way it is made. For example, a material made with a mixture of sand and cement can have a much higher thermal conductivity than a metal.
So in conclusion, solid materials have high thermal conductivity, but they are not as good thermal conductors as metals or liquids.
A good thermally conductive material is a super-conducting material. It will keep the heat and the electrical current moving. So if you want to use some materials like steel and wood to make things more thermally conductive, you have to go with those materials.
