We can find these kinds of things in the world around us by looking at how loud different frequencies are. For instance, the sound made by the hammer is actually a harmonic oscillator and the sound of its energy is the fundamental. This is a lot like our brain is an oscillator, except it goes from one oscillation to another in a much greater rate than the brain can ever go. It keeps beating on itself and keeping energy in the system.
